World Happiness Rankings 2023
A look at the happiest (and saddest) places on Earth
Every year, the World Happiness Report puts out a very beefy breakdown of happiness around the world. These reports are hundreds of pages long and examine the societal factors that affect human well-being. They take survey data from around the world to compile their findings which they then release to the public. The reports are very dense, but the thing that most people like to look at are the national rankings. The World Happiness Ranking lists countries #1–137 based on their composite happiness scores.
Here are some of the rankings from the 2023 report.
The Top Ten
- Finland
- Denmark
- Iceland
- Israel
- The Netherlands
- Sweden
- Norway
- Switzerland
- Luxembourg
- New Zealand
Eight of the top ten entries on this year’s list are all in Europe. One (Israel) is in Asia, and one (New Zealand) is in Oceania. Finland has now topped the list for six years running. There are no North American countries in the top ten.
