Who Painted All Of These Iconic American Works Of Art?
Do you recognize these iconic American paintings?
If you study any part of American history, you will likely have come across elaborately detailed paintings of seminal events. These paintings are synonymous with American history, and they instantly transport the viewer to a time and place that is not their own. The detail, atmosphere, and grandeur of these paintings are seemingly unmatched.
The paintings depict such famous events as the surrender of Fort Ticonderoga, the surrender at Yorktown, and George Washington giving up his commission as the commander-in-chief of the Continental Army. The paintings also include the deaths of famous generals from the American Revolution.
But who painted them?
These works of art, many of which are housed in the world’s most elite art museums or can be found hanging in important US government buildings, were painted by a man by the name of John Trumbull.
Trumbull’s prowess at the time was seemingly unmatched, and his legacy lives on to this very day.
