What Would Happen If Every Premier League Game Ended In a Draw?
In a sport with ties and no playoffs, one has to ask
The English Premier League is the pinnacle of the club soccer world. It is the league that every English team wants to be in, and it is one of the most prestigious sports leagues in the world. Twenty teams vie for the crown each season, with the top four teams being given the chance to compete in the continental Champions League and the bottom three teams getting relegated to the lower league. It is a fun system.
For each win, teams are awarded three points, and their goal differential is calculated. Draws yield one point. Losses net you no points.
Each team plays 38 games for a season total of 380 league matches.
What would happen if every game ended in a draw?
In a league that allows ties and has no playoff system, it is a fair question to ask. While the chances of every single one of the 380 matches ending in a draw are essentially zero, they are not exactly zero.
The odds of a Premier League match ending in a draw 380 times in a row is 1.32×10^−250. That is a decimal with 250 zeroes in front of it. That number uses the fact that 22% of all Premier League games end in draws.
