What Happened To General Patton After WWII?
Patton’s inglorious demise
Many people manage to find positives while serving in combat. Many men point to the camaraderie, the fact that there are no worries other than the day ahead and even the thrill of the fight. However, most soldiers have one thing in common — they are all waiting to go home. Most soldiers know the date that they will be shuffled from the front and wistfully count the days down until they are rotated. That was not true for General George S. Patton.
When World War II finally came to an end in 1945, Patton reportedly wrote:
“Another war gone and with it my purpose for existing.”
Few people in history reveled in warfare the way that George Patton did. He loved war in a way that others loved their spouses or their favorite hobby. To Patton, war was the only thing worth doing. It was the pinnacle of human existence and the only thing that could sustain his soul.
When the greatest conflict in human history came to a close, Patton was left in a new world where he no longer had a purpose. So, what exactly happened to Patton after World War II?
