Was Alexander The Great Assassinated?
The possibility is more probable than not
The death of Alexander the Great is one of the greatest mysteries in history. At the time of his death, Alexander was seen as the son of the gods. He was invincible. Unstoppable. After toppling the Persian Empire, he was planning to push into the subcontinent of India. His empire stretched from Macedon to Egypt to modern day Pakistan. The entire dominion of the Earth seemed to be destined to fall under Alexander’s fist.
Then he died.
In a sudden turn of events, the world’s greatest conqueror fell ill with a fever, chills, and severe abdominal pain. He lay in agony for days before perishing. He often cried out in delirious pain. The image of Alexander writhing in pain before dying shattered the image of him as a god. He was a man, and then he followed in the footsteps of all men before him and died.
Many modern doctors and scholars have put forward a large number of theories regarding his death. He caught malaria. He had typhoid fever. He developed pancreatitis from eating and drinking too much. One of his many wounds got infected and eventually killed him.
Unfortunately, with a dearth of reliable records from the period and without a body to examine, most theories are just that, theories. Most people think…
