Ukraine Aiming To Maintain Counteroffensive Momentum Through Winter
Will they be successful?
Recently, I wrote an article in which I speculated that the Ukraine War is grinding into a stalemate. Winter is coming, and the Russians have been working on reinforcing defensible positions along the Dnipro River. Many of my very educated readers pointed out that the war is not grinding into a stalemate. I was skeptical, so I dug into many daily reports coming out of the Institute For The Study of War and found that Ukraine is indeed trying to press its counteroffensive forward through winter. Here is what I learned.
The Current Situation
Ukraine is continuing to press forward northeast of Kharkiv in Kharkiv Oblast. Frontline reporting has indicated that Russian shelling has retreated, and shells are falling on new villages, which is an indication that the Russian positions have been pushed back, albeit modestly.
Ukraine is trying to press the advantages that it has gained during its recent counteroffensive operations, and they continue to push on Russian lines around key cities.
The Russians are allegedly preparing a defensive position around the city of Starobilsk, which is 230km south and east of Kharkiv. In the meantime, the Russians are attempting to hold the entire…
