When people imagine futuristic space weapons, their minds tend to run wild. Thinkers, dreamers, and writers have come up with everything from stellar manipulation devices that cause massive solar flares to simple laser weapons to blow satellites out of the sky. Currently, there are no known space weapons, but it is only a matter of time before someone puts a weapon system into orbit. The United States recently launched their own Space Force, and a new targeting squadron was put in place to identify and neutralize enemy objects in orbit. Everyone is scrambling to figure out what the first space weapons are going to be and how best to counter them.
One military space weapon has been repeatedly floated as the one that would be the easiest to implement and the most effective from a physics standpoint.
Like many things in life, simple options are usually the best. Nations might not need high tech laser weapons or advanced satellites to inflict massive damage from orbit. They might only need a large tungsten rod.
