The United States was fortunate to escape most of the devastation of both World Wars. While Europe and Asia ripped themselves to pieces, North America was largely untouched. This proved to be a massive boon for post-war America as they had all of their industry and infrastructure intact while the rest of the world was left picking up the pieces of their shattered lives.

But America did not fully escape the fingers of war. The Japanese infamously bombed Pearl Harbor, pulling the US into the conflict. They also invaded remote islands in the North Pacific, which was part of the Alaskan territory at the time. Even then, both Hawai’i and Alaska were mere territories at the time rather than full states. They are also part of the non-contiguous US.

There was only one time that the Axis managed to strike a military target within the contiguous United States directly, and it was an ineffective attack against an ancient relic.
