Commuting data from over 300 cities
One of the best parts of January are the data dumps. As studies wind down after using data from the previous year, in this case 2023, then new reports get released with all of the most recent data. TomTom, a Dutch driving technology company, compiled a study tracking over 600 million commuters from around the world. The data was then used to compile an index of all of the major cities in the world and how they rank when it comes to overall traffic and congestion.
The study covered over 300 cities across 55 countries and 6 continents.

Top 5 Cities With The Worst Traffic In The World
TomTom gave each major city an overall traffic ranking based on the aggregate ranking of all of their variables. The variables include travel time, travel speed, congestion level and number of hours lost to congested traffic for commuters per year. These cities ranked at the top of the list as for the total overall worst cities for traffic. TomTom also broke down the rankings between city centers and metropolitan areas.
