That’s a lot of shopping

The COVID-19 pandemic that swept through the world muted a lot of things that should have had a chance to flourish. Stadiums, theaters, restaurants, and shopping centers were shuttered from Tokyo to Tehran. The result was that some projects slipped into obscurity rather than capturing the attention that they likely deserved. One such project was the Iran Mall which opened its first phase in 2018, with subsequent phases being slated for 2019 and 2020 openings.

This was unfortunate timing for one of the world’s largest commercial projects. The first phase of the Iran Mall opened with 2.9 million square feet of retail space and over 700 individual storefronts. This automatically ranked the Iran Mall as one of the largest in the world, but it is not finished yet. Through subsequent phases, the Iran Mall has ballooned to over 20 million square feet of total retail space and is home to a variety of different sections and features though the mall has not reached its final phase of completion. The mammoth floor space makes the Iran Mall the largest in the world by area and is roughly four times larger than the epic Mall of America in Minnesota.

By The Numbers
