World War II was an all encompassing conflict that spanned the globe. From the islands of the Pacific to the fields of France. However, despite the time and attention given to the subject of the Second World War, there are still a number of fronts that are all but forgotten.

These are some of the fronts that receive little to no attention in the grand scheme of the war.

Burma — India

(Public domain)

The Japanese invaded Burma with the goal of severing the Allied ties between India and China. With Burma under Japanese control, the British could not secure supply lines between India and China. This split the front into two sectors that the Japanese could better manage.

The Burma campaign is interesting because the Japanese had plans to push into the British Raj. The Japanese wanted to foment an uprising in India to overthrow the British. Success in this endeavor would have been world shaking. The Japanese pushed as far as Kohima in India before they were stopped.
