The FBI Director Personally Emailed Me
My new favorite spam email annotated
Spam is a common part of digital life. Most of the time, spam is annoying and worthless, littering your inbox with invitations to buy gold or bogus claims about an extended car warranty that doesn’t exist. But every once in a while, you get something that is truly special.
It takes a lot for a spam message to shake me out of my daily work-related email torpor. I check my email religiously, and the spam flows thick and fast. But this email. This one caught my eye.
This spam message has it all. A fantastic central character. Attempts at realism. The word fraudster in capital letters. A ridiculous email address. A government plot. This is by far the best email I have received so far in 2023.
