The Axis was made up of three main nations during World War II. Germany, Japan, and Italy worked in concert to push a militaristic and fascist vision for the world from 1941 through 1945. All three nations would lose, and lose big, at the hands of a global coalition of Allies. So what happened to the men that led the Axis after the war was over? What happened to the defeated? What was the fate of the most famous generals? The masterminds? The politicians? This article covers seven of the biggest leaders of the Axis and their fates after the end of the war.

Germany

Adolf Hitler

Adolf Hitler is perhaps the most infamous leader in history. His vision for Germany and the world is what ultimately led to the outbreak of World War II. Hitler was instrumental in creating the Axis. He forged bonds with Italy, Japan, the Soviet Union (before breaking them), Romania, and Hungary.

Adolf Hitler was the leader of the Nazi Party from 1921 until his death in 1945 and the leader of Germany from 1934 until 1945.

Hitler died by suicide on April 30th, 1945, as the Red Army closed in on Berlin. He died via a gunshot wound.
