The Deepest Canyon In The Solar System

It makes the Grand Canyon seem like a paper cut

Mars is the Texas of the Solar System. Everything is bigger on Mars. The Red Planet is home to some of the most extreme features in the entire solar system due to oversized geologic formations. That includes the largest mountain in the solar system. It also happens to include the deepest canyon in the solar system.

Our dusty red neighbor has a fondness for showing off jaw dropping features in its crust and the Valles Marineris is no different.

The eye-popping canyon was first spotted in 1971 when the first probes began orbiting Mars. After just a few passes it became clear in photos that something truly magnificent and larger than anything anyone expected was lurking down on the surface.

If you think that the Grand Canyon is, well, grand, you ain’t seen nothing yet.

The Grand Canyon measures 277 miles long and is 18 miles at its widest point. It is a picturesque monument to Earth’s beauty. At its deepest point, the Grand Canyon is over 6,000ft deep.
