One of the most divisive documents ever compiled
The Communist Manifesto is one of the most enduring revolutionary documents ever written. Its reach and effects on world history are in league with the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution. It is fitting that the pamphlet was written in 1848, the year of revolutions in Europe.
The pamphlet was first published on February 21st, 1848. That makes today the 175th anniversary of the publication of the booklet. How many other documents from the first half of the 19th century remain so prominent in today’s world?
The Communist Manifesto was compiled by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. These two names can still cause convulsions of fury and indignation from blue blood capitalists. There have been hundreds, perhaps thousands, of political pamphlets published since the creation of the printing press, and very few shook the foundations of the political world as this one.
