In one of the longest and bloodiest wars in human history, one battle stands out from the rest in terms of its importance and impact. Despite lasting just four days, the Battle of Amiens was one of the most influential conflicts of the Great War. The first day of the battle was so impactful on the German Army that it would go down in history as The Black Day.

The Allies launched a massive counteroffensive on August 8th, 1918, against German positions all along the Western Front. It was this day that was the beginning of the end of the Great War and the downfall of the German Empire. Germany’s black day.

The battle on August 8th began at 4 AM in heavy fog under the blasts of a massive artillery barrage. The British Fourth Army surged forward across no man’s land and into the teeth of the German defenses.
