It is that time of year when we all gather around and give thanks for the good things in our lives, the consistent things, and the things that we don’t have to worry about. So for that, I want to thank you, dear reader. Thank you for reading my writing. Thank you for clicking on articles, even the ones that make you scratch your head or raise your eyebrows. Thank you for indulging in my passion for history, and thank you for putting up with my fervent religion.

Thank you to those of you who have bought my coffees over the years. I read every comment, and while I do not always respond (because they make responding to individual notes very difficult), I appreciate each and every patron that I have.

Without readers, I would be writing for naught. Without an attentive audience, I would be shouting into the void. A writer without an audience is a vain and futile thing. So, thank you once again.

Always remember to direct your thanks toward someone. Gratitude in a vacuum is not genuine gratitude. Saying you are thankful for something basic, like the roof over your head, without a subject discredits the work, generosity, or forward thinking of the said subject. If you pay your own rent and say you’re thankful for the roof over your head, are you thanking yourself or your mortgage holder?

My family is thankful for God and the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ, for the forgiveness of sins, which allows us to approach God with confidence in the land of the living.

I hope you have a great day with your family and/or friends.

As for the big news I promised in my headline. I am starting a podcast. If you like my writing, like my research topics, and are interested in history, you should stay tuned for the upcoming podcast. The podcast (tentatively titled Forgotten & Found) will be episodic, roughly 30 minutes in length, and moderately more in-depth than the content you are used to now. The pros of a podcast are that it will appeal to those who do not fancy reading and can be listened to in the car on the way to work or on the road. Episodes should start dropping weekly around the New Year.

I will be publishing show notes or transcripts and linking them to relevant Medium articles that I have already written for each episode.

I never really considered podcasting, but I figured it fit my talents. I already pump out tons of research and tons of writing. Why not spin it into a new medium (no pun intended)? The goal is to create an ecosystem of articles and podcasts that touch on deep and interesting history, and one day, perhaps I can spin all of this into some kind of book. The ultimate dream.

I can’t take credit for the idea. My wife floated it.

There will be a learning curve and some touch-and-go moments in the beginning, but I’m hopeful that this new project will pan out. The podcast will be developed in conjunction with Medium. My content here will progress apace as usual.

Let me know what you are thankful for down below and let me know what you think about a potential podcast launch in the near future.

Happy Thanksgiving.

“I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart; I will recount all of your wonderful deeds. I will be glad and exult in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.” — Psalm 9:1–2
