Manifestation is having a moment right now. Thousands of people online are working to convince each other and themselves that you can manifest your goals and needs. Thinking hard enough and staying positive can move your life in a positive direction. But what if the opposite is true? What if you can manifest yourself ill? That is not only possible; the data says that it could be happening to more people than many realize.

The heart of this phenomenon is called the nocebo effect. Not to be confused with the placebo effect. The nocebo effect is the evil twin of the placebo. Placebo says that you can gain positive results from an inert substitute. Nocebo says the opposite. You can gain negative effects from an inert substitute. The brain is an extremely valuable tool. Most people are running around trying to use placebo and manifestation to improve their lives without realizing the dangers of the opposite. Sinking into a state of pessimism can cause you to become sick and feel awful.
