People Keep Asking Me If I’m Scared Of AI Stealing My Job. Here’s My Response.
Should I worry about AI?
The most frequent question I get these days as a writer is whether or not I am afraid that artificial intelligence (AI) is going to steal my job. Gone are the days when people ask me what I am writing about or what kinds of projects I am pursuing. Instead, everyone seems to only have room in their noggins for our robot overlords.
This question is always asked with some halting hesitancy as though I am living under a cloud of existential dread over whether or not the machines are here to take my job. Everyone acts as though I must inevitably have a Sword of Damocles hanging over my exposed and quivering neck. There is no doubt that AI is starting to affect the landscape when it comes to online content creation. But I am not worried.
But…but… chat bots… OpenAI… THE MACHINES! What about the machines?

I am a good writer, and anyone who spends any amount of time online can tell you that good writers are hard to find. AI doesn’t keep me up at night the same way that mediocre writers don’t keep me up at night. Currently, AI is the epitome of a bad writer. It is stilted. It repeats itself.
