No different than the elephant in the room of EVs which are also incredibly energy intensive to build. Anyone who buys a new EV rather than milk an old car along as long as possible will be underwater in terms of environmental impact. Not that they care. EVs aren't about the planet. They're a status symbol and a virtue signal.

Not to mention all of the awful mining that goes into the battery production and the question about what to do with all of these fried batteries down the line.
