My Lifetime Medium Stats (And The Code That Lets You See Them)

Transparent numbers for those who are curious

Recently, I saw a Medium writer who had included their total lifetime views in their byline. This immediately intrigued me. How did they get their lifetime stats? Do people respond well to seeing how many views you have gotten in total? How many views have I received in three years of writing?

A few quick web searches yielded the answers.

The Numbers

My total stats, as trawled by a handy piece of code, are as follows.

• Total Views: 2,184,492
• Total Reads: 966,961
• Total Fans: 47,134

You can then take these numbers and divide them by your total number of stories (easily found on your Stories page) to get some average stats per post.

• Total Stories Published: 891
• Views Per Story: 2,451
• Reads Per Story: 1,085
• Fans Per Story: 52.9
