My father and father in law are both 20+ year military vets. I can tell you that there are some issues. Most of our military budget goes to paying bureaucrats, weapons companies and paying $15 mil per missile.

Normally I'd say we could just build more oilers or tankers in case of a conflict but every ship we've built in the last decade rolls off the slips late, overbudget and riddled with bugs.
