Meet The Nephew of Adolf Hitler, Who Fought For The US During WWII
And how he helped end the modern Hitler line
One of the most bizarre and stories of World War II involves a relative of Adolf Hitler. When you look back at it, few things are ever mentioned about Hitler’s family. They don’t really factor into the story that much, but it is curious that the direct relatives of the most evil person in history largely go unnoticed. Perhaps I am looking at this from a more modern perspective, where podcast culture would never let anyone even tangentially involved with Adolf Hitler to get a free pass. So, when I stumbled across this story, I was immediately intrigued. How have I never heard of a close relative of Hitler fighting for the United States during World War II?
One of the reasons is that everyone associated with Adolf Hitler did their damnest to erase those connections and dissociate following the conclusion of the war. William Patrick Hitler was one such person.
William Patrick Hitler was born in 1911 to Alois Hitler Jr. and his wife Bridget Dowling. Alois Hitler Jr. was Adolf Hitler’s half-brother who was living in Liverpool, England, at the time. Bridget Dowling was Irish, making little William Hitler half-German, half-Irish.
