I Will Not Fight In Your Civil War

Don’t expect regular people to pick up your extremist causes

America seems obsessed with igniting a second civil war. The media continues to give breathless coverage to extremist keyboard warriors who spend their days typing furiously about how it is time for Americans to once again take up arms against one another. The idea seems to be tantalizing to many people who have never seen the horrors of war — especially a civil war.

The growing talk of a new civil war is a concerning and disheartening trend that continues to suck up valuable political oxygen that could be used elsewhere. Others have tried to use a more euphemistic phrase, National Divorce, to describe the potential war, but the sentiment is the same. It is time to break up the Union once again.

I am here to tell you right now that I will not fight in your civil war. I want no part in fighting my fellow Americans. Zero. None. Zilch. As bad as things have gotten and as bad as things seem, that potential is nowhere near my heart or my mind. And I do not think that I am alone.
