I Asked ChatGPT To Write Me a Stand Up Bit — An Analysis
Did I laugh?
My wife and I enjoy watching stand up comedy on big streaming services. Professional stand up is like pizza, sometimes it's not great, but it's never really bad. Plus, I’m an easy mark. I laugh at just about anything.
And that got me thinking.
Everyone is worried that AI is going to ruin the arts. It can draw, it can create logos, it can write (well, it can write poorly and some people can’t tell the difference, but I digress), it can create videos and doctored audio. But can it make you laugh?
Are comedy writers safe from the unceasing march of AI? What would it say about the world if the machines were funny? Would you be more open to the inevitable AI takeover if the robots at least had a good sense of humor?
Can ChatGPT make me laugh?
I decided to find out.
For this exercise, I am going to use italics when something was almost funny, and I am going to bold anything that I thought was legitimately funny.
And remember that I am a whore for a good chuckle.
Let me know if you thought any of this AI slop was funny. And don’t worry, I won’t tell your friends if you do.
