2021 is going to go down in history as a seminal year and probably not for the reasons that most people expected. After a tumultuous 2020, many people hoped that 2021 would be better. Instead, the news headlines were filled with monumental stories that are going to define this year for future generations.

Here are five headlines that are going to define 2021 forever.

Biden’s withdrawal from Afghanistan was a strategic failure

For the first time in twenty years, the United States is no longer officially at war. In August 2021, the United States completed a chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan officially ending the combat mission in the troubled nation. Instead of a relief bringing moment of triumph, the withdrawal sparked backlash from people across the political spectrum.
