Is the world patient enough to watch a nuclear demonstration without overreacting?
Detonating a nuclear weapon is seen by many as a last resort. Some people fear that the detonation of any nuclear weapon in today’s day and age would result in an unstoppable chain of events that would guarantee a nuclear exchange. That makes the idea of someone setting off a nuclear weapon as a show of force unthinkable. It would be too risky to detonate a nuclear weapon in today’s world. Wouldn’t it?
Some experts are not so sure. There is a growing fear that Russia will detonate a nuclear weapon as a show of force. Open nuclear testing was banned decades ago. Since the ban, there have not been any atmospheric nuclear explosions set off by any world powers.
Perhaps it is time to remind the world what a nuclear mushroom cloud looks like.
That is the thinking behind a new warning coming out from military planners and strategic experts. Vladimir Putin could restart nuclear testing inside Russia’s borders or he could opt to detonate a nuke high above Ukraine and unleash an EMP blast that would knock out power and communications to the entire region.
