Christians Should Never Kill — Even In Self-Defense — Here Is Why
Thou shalt not kill
Recently, the Christian community in the United States has merged itself with the Second Amendment crowd. Guns are openly discussed in churches. Many congregants are armed. There are security meetings about how to counter “active threats” and how to “identify potential threats”. The implications are clear and not all that subtle — mess around in here and meet Jesus today.
Many people have openly praised a Michigan church security guard who fatally shot a potential mass shooter.
It is easy to cheer for something like this. This guy is absolutely a hero. Right? He stopped a mass shooting. Saved countless lives. Right?
He likely saved lives, but did he act in a Christian manner? I’m not so sure.
God commands us not to kill. It is a very simple command. And yet, people have made all sorts of excuses to break this rule. What about self-defense? What about the military? What if your family is in danger?
