Most people assume that dragons are mythological. If you walked into a crowded room and made it clear that you believe that dragons existed (or still exist), you would immediately be labeled as a crazy person. Modern people don't think that dragons ever existed. Nearly everyone on Earth will tell you in no uncertain terms that dragons are a myth. And that is strange.

Ancient peoples definitely thought that dragons were real. There is a load of historical writing that treats dragons as natural and no different from other exotic animals or large beasts that roam the Earth. So why don’t we still believe in dragons?

This can be attributed to the dodo effect. People have never seen a dragon. Therefore, dragons don’t exist. Interestingly enough, people used to think the same thing about dodo birds. For centuries, most people assumed that dodos were fake. They said that the dodo was made up because no one had ever seen one. It wasn’t until the 19th century that people came to the realization that dodos did actually exist. They had just gone extinct.

Could the same thing be true of dragons? It is possible. Let us see what ancient writers said about dragons and determine if these people thought that dragons…
