Sorry Alec Baldwin, I’m not buying it

Alec Baldwin is speaking out about his role in a fatal shooting that occurred on the set of the western film Rust earlier this year. Actor Alec Baldwin was reportedly practicing unholstering a gun for an upcoming scene when the gun discharged and struck two people, killing one. It was a tragedy that has led to a lot of finger pointing and a lot of questions about gun safety and movie set safety.

There is no question that there should not have been a live round in the prop gun that Baldwin was handling. Finding out how live ammunition made its way into a prop should be question number one. However, Baldwin is now claiming that he never even pulled the trigger.

In a new exclusive interview with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos Baldwin is making the claim that the gun fired itself.

Alec Baldwin said in part:

“The trigger wasn’t pulled. I didn’t pull the trigger. I would never point a gun at anyone and pull the trigger, never.”

I find that hard to believe.

I have sympathy for the fact that the gun was not supposed to be live but the number one rule of handling guns is that you should always, always, always treat them as if they are live, even if you know that…
