Actually, it's not that simple. That line of thinking is really dangerous. Saying that something didn't happen in the past has little bearing on future events. That's the same kind of reasoning that people use for pro nuclear proliferation arguments. Mutually assured destruction is so secure that everyone should have nukes. But we all know that's a bad idea because the past is not an ironclad determinant of the future.
