A Look At The World’s Tallest Statue
It dwarfs the Statue of Liberty (and every other statue on Earth)
In 2018, the world’s tallest statue was completed in Gujarat India after eight years of planning and construction. The statue is known as the Statue of Unity and it depicts Vallabhbhai Patel on a truly massive scale. The man stands with his hands at his sides and stares serenely out as his beloved India.
At the time of its completion, the Statue of Unity shattered the record for the world’s tallest statue with a height of 597 feet. The base of this behemoth rises another 190 feet making the total height of the statue 790 feet tall.
The next tallest statue is dwarfed by the likeness of Mr. Patel by a whopping 177 feet.
Construction
The Statue of Unity was built by the Indian company Larsen & Toubro. Also known as L&T, Larsen & Toubro is a renowned infrastructure firm that builds projects on a massive scale in India. The statue’s first stone was laid on Halloween in 2013 to mark the 138th birthday of its inspiration Vallabhbhai Patel.
