Money and status couldn’t save them from their fate
China has been in the news a lot as of late and this time they are making headlines for yet another disappearance of an important person. Tennis star Peng Shuai has not been seen in public since she publicly accused a Chinese official of sexual assault.
Simply not being in the limelight doesn’t usually mean that the person has vanished, but in the case of China that is often the case. Shuai is certainly not the first person to disappear on China’s watch and, sadly, she likely will not be the last.
This is an occurrence that has become more and more common in recent years. Under the guise of fighting corruption, the Communist Party of China (CCP) has been targeting dissidents, whistleblowers, and the ultra-wealthy in a bid to keep the populace under control.
