Ever since their inception, black holes have fascinated people, and for good reason. Black holes are marvels of physics and represent the absolute extreme fringes of our physical universe. These dense areas are so massive and compact that they suck everything into themselves, including light. They are largely invisible to the human eye, but they have massive effects on the universe around them. Black holes are so large, so powerful, and so influential that they can warp entire regions of space.

Black holes once existed only in theory. But recently, thanks to a dedicated team of professionals and scientists, these terrifying spatial anomalies are being photographed and captured in ways never seen before. Now we can see black holes with our own eyes. Thanks to a combination of visual light images, x-rays, infrared and radioactive pictures, we can see black holes as they exist out in the universe.

These images show us how massive our universe truly is, how small we are and how destructive the forces of physics can be.

Here are five stunning images of black holes that will make you ponder the wonders of the universe.
