The Bible is the number one best selling book in modern history and is one of the most circulated ancient texts. Given the widespread nature of the Bible it is no surprise that there is a large number of colloquial phrases that come out of the Bible that we use all of the time.

Go the extra mile

Go the extra mile is a phrase that we often use to convey high expectations on one another. We tell our kids to go the extra mile for people and sometimes at work our bosses expect us to also hoof that extra mile for them. This common phrase comes to us from the book of Matthew.

Matthew 5:41 reads:

If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles.

Jesus expected his followers to go the extra mile, and not just for people we like or respect, for people who already forced you to go one mile.
